Dear Northmont Middle School Parents and Community,
On behalf of the entire Northmont Middle School staff, I welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year and the return of smiling faces, full classrooms and all the wonderful experiences our middle school has to offer. I hope you had a safe and wonderful summer full of exciting memories from time spent with family and friends.
As I begin my 8th year as principal of Northmont Middle School, I look forward to navigating the return of many of the things we’ve missed the last year along with keeping some of the great things that came from that time period. At NMS we are committed to providing students an exceptional education with diverse opportunities so they maximize their potential and are productive responsible citizens. We encourage all students to become involved in an extracurricular activity or club during their middle school years. Engaging and participating in extracurricular opportunities enable students to make new friends, learn new skill sets, and be a part of something. Our 1:1 technology enhances the learning experience for students and staff, puts the world at their fingertips, and will open up endless possibilities.
As we begin our 6th year using Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program we are excited to share that we have added a PBIS digital app that will make reinforcing and tracking positive behaviors easier and more streamlined for everyone involved. PBIS is a school-wide approach designed to improve school climate, to achieve improved academic and social outcomes, and to increase learning for all students. This program will continue to help us reinforce desired behaviors, diminish the recurrences of challenging behaviors and teach appropriate behaviors to all students. This program has shown positive benefits in both grades and behaviors for our students. We encourage our students to demonstrate the Northmont Way: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Resourceful.
We look forward to welcoming your child back to middle school and we ask that you take an active part in your student’s education by helping with homework and studying, by setting boundaries, and by being there to listen and provide support when needed. Please make us aware of any issues or questions you might have, so we can help your child have a successful school year. If you ever have questions or need assistance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Sledge (7-12 Dean of Students), Mr. Mengerink (8th-grade principal), Mrs. Gover (7th-grade principal), or myself at 832-6500 or email at email@example.com.
Have a great year,
